The LG Crystal has a touch sensitive keypad and screen which operate independently to perform different actions. They bring to the LG Crystal a level of performance that can be quite intimidating until you learn how to get the best from them. This latest LG mobile phone is certainly packed full of functionality so lets get to grips with what its got.
It’s the current S-Class interface that really catches the eye and if you haven’t seen it used before you will want to familiarise yourself with how it works. When combined with the functionality of the touchpad and screen the LG Crystal offers the user a very pleasing operator experience.
The S-Class 3dD Interface has been used before, first on the LG Arena KM900 and later on the Viewty Smart GC900, but it is really difficult to get tired of it . Utilizing a 3D cube the four faces offer shortcut options to your most used apps and contacts. The cube is fun to use and works well to keep everything well organised. Just a stroke with your finger presents a new side, these are your four home screens.
The first has nine of your most used applications, the next up to thirty contacts while third screen offers access to your widgets. Ten in all including clock, calendar, world time, memo weather, games, calculator and radio. It’s a pity that there is no way to download more but it’s a small niggle. What you do get is fully functional however and you won’t tire of playing with the various settings for alarm, calendar, monthly schedule and so on. In fact the calendar allows you to keep track of daily, weekly and monthly tasks all easily accessible from one home screen.
Finally the fourth home screen houses multimedia. You can choose which type of files you want to store, remember these are shortcuts, but you get to bring in up to fifteen of your favourites. These can be music, photos or video and its easy to change these at will. more would have been better but you cant have everything.
You can set the home screen of you choice as your desktop, most would probably choose contacts where you can link photos with phone numbers for quick access. Given the detailed main menu we sort of wonder why the cube is there at all but you cannot deny the eye candy it offers and the LG Crystal would certainly be diminished without it.
The messaging widget is a new addition, its set at the top of the screen and it gives quick access to voice, email and text including logging new events in any of the categories.
The LG Crystal GD900 is the first S-CLASS 3D interface mobile phone that comes with two main menu themes the first being the Cube.

The second is named Water Drop, making the main menu icons look like water droplets that move slightly when touched. Grouped together in categories they can be rearranged although they have to remain in the row they are related to. Communications will always appear at the top, these are messages, recent calls, contacts etc while multimedia icons are below – camera, video and player for example. Organiser functions are included, these are calendar, notes and so on with settings last. Although you need to scroll sideways to see them all, when you turn the phone to sideways the accelerometer changes the view to landscape and you can see them all.
All in all this new LG phone has set the bar higher than previous offerings from LG and as such is set to become a standard to follow. Mobile phone retailers will certainly be falling over themselves to offer the best deal.
