If you are a photo freak then you are either going to love or hate the camera on the LG Crystal. It depends on what you expect in the way of quality photography from a mobile phone. Bearing in mind that we have never seen a camera phone that could out perform a dedicated digital camera designed for the business of taking quality photos.
Despite ramping up the image sensor to 8 mega pixels there is a distinct lack of detail in the end product. The pictures look good on the LG Crystal viewing screen but once on the computer they are not so impressive. Indoor photographs are a little washed out however with some judicial manipulation using a photo editor they can be improved. There are better cellular camera phones out there, it depends how critical you are and what is acceptable to one may not be to another. If you are a budding David Bailey you will probably own a fistful of cameras anyway this one is all about convenience. Its all about perspective really.
The GD900 has inherited the GC900’s massive range of editing options, allowing you to accomplish everything from cropping your photos to replacing certain colours. The edits that we carried out were fast and easy, and the way they took full advantage of the LG Crystal touch screen was useful. Saving the edited images does take a few moments, have some patience.
What is really stunning is the way the LG Crystal Camera feeds in the gallery pictures. In landscape mode the photos pour in one after the other creating a lavish and impressive display as they change from one to the next. Add in zooming using image spanning thanks to the multi touch viewing screen and the user experience is very satisfying.
You can switch to video with the slider on the right of the Crystal. You can set the resolution up to 720×480, add effects, adjust white balance, quality of the video capture can be adjusted too. Options to record sound are included as well. LG have included modes from earlier models like fast and slow motion shooting, really useful if you want to analyse your golf swing. Like the camera on the Crystal GD900 the video quality is okay but not brilliant again it depends on what you are expecting from something that fits into the palm of your hand. Video is very smooth though thanks to a 30 frames per second capability that’s 5 more than your standard camcorder.
Overall the LG Crystal mobile cellphone is a unique mobile phone thats going to get you noticed, its adequate camera and video performance is more than made up for by its other cutting edge features.
